Ciao Coverfly

According to many sources, Coverfly is shutting down this year.

It’s a shame to see this development, although not that surprising. I’ll miss the platform and those rare, but oh so satisfying, accolades and badges.

My thoughts on this development and what’s next are below.

  • Why it matters:

    • Coverfly (and specifically the peer review section) was an accessible venue for unconnected writers. I’ve created and maintained relationships with writers through the platform that have helped my journey as a writer

    • This really hurts writers like myself who ditched all social media. The chances to connect with other writers are so rare that losing a player in this space has an outsized affect

    • While intangible, the accolades, ranking systems, Red Lists and prestige the platform created were some of the only drops of water in an otherwise barren desert of non-Hollywood connected screenwriters. Those drops kept many people going, launched a few careers and, in my case at least, gave us just a bump of encouragement at some hard times.

  • What’s Next?

    • I hope someone else takes up the banner, particularly on the free peer review space. In that respect, please contact me if you want to connect and swap reads!

      • Most likely, we will continue to be herded toward pay for feedback contests and an even narrower path to a writing career
