2025 Submissions Tracker Update
My quest for 100 writing submissions in 2025 is pretty close to on track. I need to average 8-9 submissions per month and I’m just 1 off the pace as April ends.
I started this drive last year (successfully!) to submit 100 times per year as a way to deaden the sting of each individual rejection. This was enormously helpful in that regard. I often forgot about my submission to an individual publication, theater or contest by the time the rejection arrived. It turned sorry into shrugs and I moved on to the next one.
Some writer friends have asked where I look to find my submissions. I’ve included some links below, but first my biggest rule is to avoid spending money on entry fees unless I’m getting the better end of the deal. For example, if submitting includes quality notes in return, then that’s a great ROI.
Submission Sources:
NYCPlaywrights.org - Excellent resource for staged productions, audio plays, anthology publications and fellowships
Playwriting Submissions Group - Always active, super supportive and you don’t need a Facebook account to browse recent posts
Search (Google, etc) with “STATE NAME call for submission” and add your specific genre like stage play, fiction, screenwriting, poetry, etc. - It’s tedious but often if you target states with which you have a good connection, you will find calls that aren’t shared widely and get your foot in the door
Your local community theaters - Make calls, send emails and attend events to network. These connections will begin sending YOU calls they learn about
Until next month!
