Over the last four days I’ve had some amazing writing news hit my world. It’s so heartwarming to connect with audiences through my work and, to be honest, it’s pretty damn cool to be on a hot streak so I’m going to enjoy it.
First, I learned my short play While We Still Can will be performed June 20-23 in Colorado Springs, CO, as part of the Arts Uprise Festival at the Millibo Art Theatre. The play will appear alongside four others, spoken word poetry by the supremely talented Ashley Cornelius as well as 2D and 3D art. The goal is to punch back at the state of our country and world at the moment and I’m very proud my work will be part of it. This short play was a reflection of all the feelings I had after the 2024 Presidential Election result. It’s a bit scary to put that level of honesty out in public, but that’s why we write. Then I finalized a sale of a short film script to Dragonfly Bay Productions to hopefully produce a proof of concept short of my feature script To Make a Murder. I’ve optioned a previous script with this company, Spare the Rod, and had shared my feature previously, but the market hadn’t found enough traction for a full run. When they approached me to write a short version that could entice an investor I was super happy to see some progress. The short version was a blast to write and even opened some doors for taking the feature into a deeper place with the main character. I hope to share a clip here some day if the film is made.
Lastly, I found out Sunday morning that my quirky short play Solstheist will debut in London at Rosemary Branch June 20-23 with KDC Theatre. They put out a call for Solstice themed short plays for their Full Stack 2025 show. I didn’t have one, but had a resolution this year to answer more random calls. I sat for a moment thinking about what would stand out among the expected flood of plays. Themes of change, rebirth and transformation came to mind but I assumed everyone would also have those ideas. So then I did some word play with the word Solstice and ended on the title Solstheist. From there the zany ridiculousness just wrote itself. Tickets | Read on NPX
